Educational Background:
1996 BGS Environmental Studies, minor in geography
1999 MA Geography
Research Interests: My research interests primarily focus on using remotely sensed data (MODIS NDVI, Landsat, Aerial Imagery, LiDAR) and geographic information systems for land cover mapping. I have more than fifteen years of experience using geospatial technologies to map and model landscapes in Kansas and elsewhere.
My current research includes:
· --mapping potential wetlands in Kansas using a topographic approach,
· --mapping woody encroachment using data fusion (NAIP and LiDAR) and object-based image analysis (OBIA),
· --mapping grassland and crop types in Kansas using Landsat and MODIS NDVI in a hierarchical mapping approach using a decision tree classifier and
· -- creating and maintaining an enterprise GIS for a multidisciplinary research team to understand farmers’ land use decisions in Kansas and how those decisions impact water quality and water quantity.
